Draymond Green apologizes for Barkley jab amid NBA feud
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green apologized for comments targeting Charles Barkley's late-career stint with the Houston Rockets. Green clarified his intent on "The Draymond Green Show" after Barkley dismissed the remarks on radio and TV appearances. The exchange stemmed from Barkley's view that the Warriors' championship era has ended.
Barkley, on May 6, declared the Warriors' run over due to the age of their core, including Green. Green responded on Wednesday's "Inside the NBA," saying he aimed to avoid resembling Barkley in a Rockets uniform. Barkley later told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM that Green remains a good player but not on his level, adding he need not reply to every comment.
Green, who turned 36 in March, joined Barkley in referencing the Hall of Famer's final two Rockets seasons, where Barkley admitted poor performance but accepted the contract. Barkley, who retired at 36 after 16 NBA seasons following his 1996-97 trade from Phoenix to Houston, averaged 22.1 points and 11.7 rebounds for his career. Green's teammate Stephen Curry turned 38 recently.
Barkley reiterated on "The Dan Patrick Show" that he took no offense, noting mutual trash talk in the league. Green stressed no disrespect was meant and offered a public apology if perceived otherwise.
